After graduating from Wofford College and Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Hoenig completed his orthopedic residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, with a Sports Medicine, Shoulder & Elbow fellowship at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC.

His past affiliations include the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Carolina Panthers NFL Football team, UNC-Charlotte, Davidson College Basketball teams and local high school football teams. He currently works with Limestone University, Spartanburg High School, Byrnes High School and Dorman High School.

He is currently a faculty member of the Wake Forest Physician Assistant Program and Spartanburg Regional Family Medicine Residency Program.
